Final Fantasy XIV - A Realm Reborn

Final Fantasy

If you play games then you should recognize this name. The Final Fantasy series is THE series for RPG gamers. If you like RPGs, then you have played a Final Fantasy game, and if you haven't then go and play one. If you are a fan of the series then you've probably heard of Final Fantasy XIV. And if you've heard of Final Fantasy XIV then you should know that it had the worst release in franchise history. It was bad enough for Square Enix to apologize, and begin working on a completely revised version of the game: Final Fantaxy XIV - A Realm Reborn. But before I talk about it, Let me inform you on what happened with the FFXIV release.

Final Fantasy XIV was supposed to be the second Final Fantasy MMO, after FFXI. The think is, FFXI wasn't too bad. In fact, the game is actually pretty decent especially with its expansions. But when FFXIV was released, it received negative reviews. Complaints ranged from numerous bug and glitches, horrid interface, and overall feeling like an incomplete game. This cause Square Enix to apologize and begin       redeveloping the game from scratch. The plan on incorporating a new client, graphics engine, a revamped interface, more gameplay variations and more! Alpha testing for A Real Reborn began in October and the Closed Beta began last month. I got accepted into the closed beta, but I'm not allowed to tell you guys anything that's going on in the beta but I can tell you what Square Enix has posted on the main site. For now, I'll talk about the classes and jobs.

The classes in FFXIVAAR are split into 2 groups: Disciples of War and Disciples of Magic. When a player reaches a certain mastery level in a certain class, they can further specialize into its respective job. For example, a gladiator class specializes into the paladin job. There are 5 Disciples of War and 3 Disciples of Magic.

Gladiators
The specialize in utilizing one handed blades. These include, but not limited to, swords, dagger, and longswords. This class is capable of drawing monster attacks to itself and defending itself with its shield, combining strong offence with a powerful defense. Gladiators specialize into Paladins.

Pugilist
Pugilists utilize powerful fist weapons and tradition techniques of hand-to-hand combat. They can deal massive damage up close and their light armor allows them to remain quite mobile. Pugilists specialize into Monks.

Marauder
The Marauders utilize large great axes to deal terrifying amounts of damage with each swing. Their strong defenses allow them to take a lot of punishment while dealing it. Marauders specialize into Warriors.

Lancer
Lancers use polearms and spears. Lancers are capable of unleashing an endless barrage of slashes and thrusts, dealing a lot of damage. Lancers specialize into the almighty Dragoons.

Archer
The good ol' archer is armed with his trusty old bow allowing him or her to fire an endless stream of arrows from a distance. Archers specialize into Bards.

Conjurers
Conjurers utilize the elements Wind, Earth, and Water to create powerful spells that can heal and buff allies and also deal damage to enemies. Conjurers specialize into White Mages.

Thaumaturge
Thaumaturges focus on utilizing powerful destruction spells to wreak havoc on the battlefield. Thaumaturges specialize into the powerful Black Mages.

Arcanist
Arcanists are able to summon the familiar Carbuncle to do their bidding. Arcanists specialize into Summoners.

That's enough of Final Fantasy XIV for now. If Square Enix posts any new info or decides to let the beta testers to discuss the game outside of the forums, them I'll be sure to let you guys now. Until next time ^^

TPA themed Skins O.O

As you might have guessed from my League-themed posts, I'm a fan of League of Legends. I have been playing for about a year (started in Pre-Season 2) and I really enjoy it. I most play mid since I absolutely love AP champions. My main is Anivia because I like how she's an ice phoenix and she also does TONS OF DAMAGE. I also play a bunch of other mid champions such as Orianna, Ryze, Annie, and Evelyn.

Anyway this post isn't about why I like League; it's about the new themed skins that are coming out soon.

If you've been following what has been happening in the competitive League scene, then you should know about the Season 2 World Championships that happened last October. It featured teams from North America, Europe, and Asia. One of the teams that competed was Taipei Assassins (TPA). When I first started watching the championships, I paid attention to CLG.EU and Froggen, and Azubu Frost and Rapidstar, mostly because these 2 players were known for playing Anivia exceptionally well. I had no idea who TPA was at the time, and I only found out how good they were when they defeated Moscow 5, the team that people expected to win.

Soon the finals came along and it was TPA versus Azubu Frost. I expected Azubu Frost to win, until I woke up the next morning to see that TPA has won. I was quite surprised to see that since I still had no idea who TPA was. So I decided to look up some information on the team, specifically for info on Toyz, their AP mid. I found out he was really good as Orianna. Now, Orianna isn't my favourite, but I really enjoy playing as her even though I'm not that good as her than with Anivia. So I decided to watch the replays of the championship and videos of Toyz playing Orianna, and dear God, this man is amazing! He's the one who made me pick up Orianna again and helped me play her a lot better.

So you may be wondering, why am I talking about Toyz and TPA? Well, Riot has announced that they will be releasing new themed skins soon. The theme: Taipei Assassins!

Now I can get an Orianna skin that based around my favourite Orianna player (who also happens to be the only Orianna okayer I watch). The champions that are getting the skins are the champions that TPA used in their winning lineup: Orianna, Nunu, Shen, Ezreal, and Dr. Mundo.

I'm looking forward to when these skins get released and I'm definitely going to by the Orianna one since it was Toyz who got be to play Orianna again :)

Still don't know exactly when these skins will be released, but when they are, expect to see me on the Fields of Justice playing as Orianna!

Dragon Nest - Assassin is a girl?

Recently on the Korean Dragon Nest website, a new piece of artwork has been released. When looking at the picture, you may think it's an outline of the assassin class, but when you download and read the file name, it reads this:

assassin_girfriend_with sword.jpg

There's a 99% chance that the picture is related to the assassin, but the file name suggests that it's only related and not the actual class. We can assume this because earlier this year (don'y know exactly when), someone from Nexon confirmed that the next class will be male since we got 2 female classes in a row. Thus, this picture was quite a surprise to most people.

However, even though we are expecting a male assassin, there's a small chance that the assassin will be female. Or perhaps we may finally be able to choose between both genders :D

Don't worry though, because the assassin class is pretty much confirmed right now. The v157 client has information on the assassin, including job information, weapons, and skill names!

Info from http://forum.mmosite.com/thread/2/217/20130218/New_Class_Assassin_Skill_Names_Revealed-5123021a7ad98be13-1.html

Job Description:
- Hunter who inherits ancient assassination technique; good at tracking enemies and assassinate them in an instant.
- Death messenger and reaper, uses chain and darts to track and kill enemies
- Stealthy marauder who lurks in darkness, kills enemies before they even turn their head.

Sounds like a mobile high-burst damage class which can fight at numerous ranges. Being able to use a chain sounds awesome!

Weapons:
Glaive
Short Sword
Crook (曲柄杖, not sure what is the right english word for this)

I made a post about the weapons already but I didn't know that the assassin will use a Glaive and Short Sword. I'm going to assume that the Glaive will be for 1 subclass and the Sword and Crook will be for the other since the Glaive is the only 2-handed weapon unless the Crook is one as well.

Skill Names:
Forceful Kick
Dirty Tricks
Piercing Star
Fan Blade
Shadow Hand
Triple Edge
Shadow Activate
Shadow Fade
Scud Kick
Swipe
Arc Collision
Leap
Smoke
Deceitful Clock
Aerial Evasion

Leading Edge
Applaud
Rake
Rain Drop
Punishment
Terminate
Shift Strike
Mortal Strike
Camouflage
Blade Rush
Thunderous Crash
Cripple Punisher
Receive Edge
Fade
Illusion Step
Chain Burst
Annihilation
Mark of Crow
Mark of Werewolf

Umbra
Crocodile King Trap
Leading Edge EX
Applaud EX
Rake EX
Rain Drop EX

Arsonist
Cruelty
Shift Strike EX
Mortal Strike EX
Camouflage EX
Blade Rush EX

It seems like the assassin will be released with both its sublasses and specializations! There's already enough skill names for a beginner skill tree, 2 subclass trees, and 2 sets of EX skills. I'm thinking most of these skills will focus on high damage while a few skills will be debuffs or buffs to allow even more damage. Definitely looking forward to this class.

There's still no released date available but I'm going to assume it will be released in Korea in a month and in China shortly after. Once it comes to China, I'm gonna hop back onto the Chinese server and check it out :)

Dragon Nest - Liverwort Liberators Update

Been awhile since I made a post about Dragon Nest :P

So today there's was an update for Dragon Nest which added some new content. The update is called Liverwort Liberators and includes:

  • Green Dragon Nest - Hell Mode
  • More Lotus Marsh dungeons
  • 3rd Suffixes
  • Active Mission System
  • Halloween Costumes are back for a limited time (kinda random)
  • Military Style Costumes
  • Dragon Egg update
  • Crafting UI update
  • Title Book UI update
  • PvP menu and shop update
  • Events UI update
  • Balance changes
  • Even more UI changes XD
  • Bug fixes

Green Dragon Nest Hell Mode

You know the drill. Hell mode is just a harder version of the original nest. Not only does beating it make you a boss, but you're also able to get the new level 50 Legendary armors, weapons, accessories, and sparks! You can enter Hell Mode by using an entry pass that you get form clearing normal mode.

Lotus Marsh and 3rd Suffix

There are 2 more dungeons in Lotus Marsh:
Valled of the Blind
Queen's Garden
These are the only dungeons where you can get the essence's for the 3rd suffix, so it's safe to assume that these dungeons are pretty difficult :P However, it seems like the 3rd suffix only increases the chance of the suffix effect from happening, and no other stats are increased :(

UI Updates

Several menus have had their UI's updated. The crafting UI has been updated to look better and to be a lot easier to navigate.

As you can see, the recipes are organized according to what you're trying to craft: actual gear, adding a suffix, creating tech rings, and general good which includes lusters and waters. You can also have a Craft Helper which adds the recipe to your quest helper, allowing you to keep track of materials as you go through dungeons :) This is gonna make life a lot easier when crafting suffixes.

PvP Updates

Aside from the small UI changes, the one thing people really looked at was the shop changes. The shop now features EXP capsules, which increases arena EXP in exchange for medals, and they even sell this beautiful trinket:

That's right, you can now get the Blessed Stone from the Arena Elite Shop, but you need to be a Champion or higher. So there are now 2 ways to get the Blessed Stone: Get lucky while clearing dungeons, or grind for arena medals.

There's also 1 more thing added to the arena shop that you might like. Level 50 Unique ladder weapons are now available! So you can now spend your ladder points on something useful instead of splurging on pouches :D

There's some more to cover in this patch, but I'll do that when I blog about my swordmaster.

'Till then, cya ^^

Yugioh - Dark World

So I recently got back into Yugioh thanks to my friends -.- So this post will be about my main deck, Dark World.

The Dark world deck focuses on discarding Dark World monsters form your hand in order to activate their effects. These effects include special summoning them, drawing cards, and even destroying cards on the field. These effects only activate when discarded by an effect, not a cost. So cards like Lightning Vortex won't trigger Dark World effects.

What makes Dark World so strong is that they are capable of swarming the field while destroying your opponents field. The deck's main boss monster, "Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World", is able to continuously special summon itself from the graveyard. All you need to do is send a Dark world monster from the field to your hand. This means you will always have a powerful front-line, provided that you have monsters to send to your hand.

The other Dark world monsters are also powerful themselves. Beige, Goldd, and Silva get special summoned whenever they're discarded from your hand. This makes it easy to flood the field and also allows for easy Grapha summons. Broww let's you draw cards, giving you a hand advantage, and Snoww allows you to search your deck for a Dark World card.

If you ever want to make use of some powerful synchro monsters, then Fabled Raven is what you want. Its effect allows you to discard you Dark World cards and Raven gets stronger in the process! So even if you don't use Raven to synchro, he will still be crazy powerful on his own.

You can also use Appropriate and Forced requisition to create an ridiculous hand advantage. Whenever you use Dark World Dealings, you're essentially drawing 3 cards and your opponent is discarding 2 cards XD

Another powerful card for the deck is Skill Drain. Since Dark world cards use their effects in the graveyard and not the field, Skill Drain won't do anything to you! This allows you to counter a lot of the common meta decks since they won't be able to use their effects. Just remember that Fabled Raven and a lot of synchros won't be able to use their effects either, so be careful when you use it.

Does your opponent's backrow scare you? No worries, just stack your deck with some Eradicator Epidemic Viruses and you'll be fine. You can use Grapha as a tribute and then bring him right back! You can also use Deck Devastation virus to completely eat away at your opponents cards. And since the viruses let's you see their hand, you can then use Mind Crush to pick off and powerful cards that they may still have. Even if you guess wrong, you'll be forced to discard, allowing you to activate even more effects!

This deck also has it's weaknesses. Any deck that relies on banishing completely destroys Dark World. Dimensional fissure, Macro Cosmos etc.. prevents you from doing anything at all since you are unable to discard to the graveyard. Thus, it's a good idea to carry around a Heavy Storm and a few Mystical Space Typhoons. Cards that prevent special summoning will also prove to be an issue, although Skill Drain could prevent this somewhat. Just remember to keep your side deck stocked with cards that target your opponent's backrow and you'll be fine. Also remember to carry around staples with you. Some good staple cards include Mirror Force and Dark Hole. Even though they won't be that useful, they can be powerful against certain decks (Example: Mirror force against Six Samurais).

Just like with every other Yugioh deck, using Dark World well requires you to know what you can and cannot do. Don't do any stupid plays and take advantage of your side deck. Even if you lose one duel, you can win the next one as long as your  side deck is good.

Let's Survive - Devil Survivor 2 The Animation

Today was a good day for me. Firstly, I didn't go to school because of a badminton tournament, and secondly, the first episode of the Devil Survivor 2 anime was released :D :D :D :D

The first episode was titled "Sunday's Melancholy". The episode went over what happened when Hibiki, Daichi, and Io first encountered the demons, and it also included the battle with Dubhe :P The episode itself went through the events pretty quickly but managed to make each scene feel epic.

Characters introduced - Hibiki Kuze (Protagonist), Daichi Shijima, Io Nitta, Makoto Sako

Characters who made an appearance (outside of the opening) - Yamato Hotsuin

The episode starts off the same as the game. Hibiki and Daichi finished writing a practice exam and are about to head home. On their way there, Daichi mentions Nicaea to Hibiki and registers him. When he registers, he ends up getting the female Tico XD

Things start picking up once they get to the subway. They see Io Nitta and they get a message of Nicaea. The message contains a video of everyone in the subway getting killed by a train that derails. And just like in the game, the video comes true, but the right before Hibiki dies, his cellphone turns on and Nicaea downloads the Demon Summoning App onto his phone. Hibiki, Daichi, and Io then get attacked by 3 Kobolds. This is when Io summons her demon, Ogre. Daichi also summons is demon, Poltergeist. The 2 demons manage to fight the Kobolds long enough for the 3 teens to escape.

Upon leaving the subway, they find out that Japan got hit by a powerful earthquake and that all subway lines are unavailable. All of Japan then loses all power, leaving everyone with no way of communicating with their families. Hibiki, Daichi, and Io decide to take Io to here home since Hibiki and Daichi can't get to their homes. On their way to her home, the run into the first Septentrion: Dubhe. Daichi manages to escape and Io summons Ogre to protect them. However, he wasn't strong enough to take down Dubhe and gets killed. Daichi then drives in with a truck and crashes right into Dubhe and explodes in the process. Thinking Daichi is dead, Hibiki summons his demon, the powerful Byakko. Since Hibiki and Byakko are awesome and overpowered, Dubhe gets completely destroyed by Byakko. It is also revealed that Daichi was saved by Io's second demon, Pixie.

The episode ends with Makoto and the JPs capturing the 3 teens and with the Anguished One making a quick appearance (I love his voice btw).

Overall, the episode was pretty good. It was a bit rushed at some parts but it's still good. It doesn't explain everything yet so you may feel a bit lost. The battle with Dubhe was exciting to watch, mostly because Hibiki was such a boss. The opening and ending themes were amazing (I ended up listening to the opening theme for 10 minutes straight). This was a solid first episode and I look forward to next week's episode. The voice actors were good as well. Tico sounds annoying (as expected), but everyone else sound great.

I have high expectations for this series, probably since I loved the game so much. I can't wait to see Jungo and Joe XD

Let's Survive

Lissandra, The Ice Witch, Revealed!

League of Legends' next champion has been revealed! Lissandra, The Ice Witch, is designed to be an incredibly mana-efficient mage that focuses on applying tons of crowd control while being able to kite very well with her mobility.

We don't now any of her base stats or any of the numbers on her skills at the moment. So try not to decide whether she's OP or UP right now. So all I can do right now is discuss her skills based on their descriptions.

Lissandra's passive is Iceborn. After a brief cooldown, Lissandra's next ability costs no mana. Hitting an enemy with movement impairing abilities reduces Iceborn's cooldown. This seems to be what allows Lissandra to be mana-efficient. This passive seems to be very useful but it will depend on the length of the cooldown and the mana costs of the rest of her abilities. Careful management with this passive would allow you to stay in lane for a long time.

Lissandra's Q is Ice Shard. Lissandra throws a spear of ice that shatters on contact with the first enemy struck, dealing damage and slowing their movement speed for a short duration. Enemies behind the struck target also take damage. This skills seems to be her main source of damage and her main farming ability. According to the description, only the first person hit gets slowed, so this could help if you get ganked, but won't do much in a teamfight in terms of CC. The cooldown and strength of the slow may change my mind.

Lissandra's W is Ring of Frost.  Lissandra freezes the area around her, dealing damage to nearby enemies and rooting them for a short duration. This seems to be Lissandra's "Get the hell away from me" skill. This makes it pretty hard to gank Lissandra unless you are a ranged champion, but which good junglers are ranged?

Her E is Glacial Path. Lissandra casts a slow-moving, long-range ice claw in a line, dealing damage to all enemies in its path. Re-activating Glacial Path teleports Lissandra to the claw's current location. This seems to be Lissandra's main mobility skill. The skill's teleport function pretty much makes Lissandra impossible to gank. For poking, her Q might be a better choice since the term "slow-moving" implies that this skill is easy to dodge.

Her ultimate is Frozen Tomb.

On enemy cast: Lissandra freezes an enemy champion, damaging and stunning them briefly. Dark Ice emanates from the target, dealing damage and slowing nearby enemies.
On self-cast: Lissandra encases herself in ice, rooting herself in place briefly and becoming untargetable and invulnerable. Dark Ice emanates from Lissandra, dealing damage and slowing nearby enemies.

This skill can pretty much shutdown the enemy AD carry. Not only does this skill stun, but enemies around the target are slowed and take damage. This skill can be used to takedown the enemy Carry quickly, or disable the tank so your team can have an easier time focusing the weaker champions.

When casted on herself, Lissandra pretty much gets a free Zhonya's Hourglass that does AOE damage. This punished any one who manages to get close to her, and if they're still close to her after the effect ends, she can use her W and walk away :P

Overall, I really like the design of this champion. Being able to apply tons of CC from a safe distance sounds like fun and I can't wait to try her out ^-^

There isn't really much else to say about her, so I'll end of this post with her lore.

Lissandra’s magic twists the pure power of ice into something dark and terrible. With the force of her black ice, she does more than freeze – she impales and crushes those who oppose her. To the terrified denizens of the north, she is known only as “The Ice Witch.” The truth is much more sinister: Lissandra is a corruptor of nature who plots to unleash an ice age on the world.

Centuries ago, Lissandra betrayed her tribe to evil creatures, known as the Frozen Watchers, in return for power. That was the last day that warm blood ran through her veins. With her corrupted tribesmen and the strength of the Watchers, she swept across the land like a terrible blizzard. As her empire spread, the world grew colder and ice choked the land. When the Watchers were defeated by ancient heroes, Lissandra did not lose faith and swore to prepare the world for their return.

Lissandra worked to purge all knowledge of the Watchers from the world. Using magic to take human form, she masqueraded as numerous seers and elders. Over the course of generations, she rewrote the stories of the Freljord, and so the history of its people changed. Today the fragmented retellings of the Watchers are seen as children’s tales. But this deception wasn’t enough – Lissandra also needed an army.

She set her sights on the noble Frostguard tribe. Lissandra knew corrupting the Frostguard would take centuries, and so she launched her greatest deception. She murdered and stole the identity of the Frostguard leader. Then she slowly began to warp the tribe’s proud traditions. When her human form grew old, she faked her own death and then murdered her successor to steal her identity. With each generation, the Frostguard grew more insular, cruel and twisted. Today, the world still sees them as a noble and peaceful tribe that guards against evil creatures like the Ice Witch. In truth, they now serve the witch and long for the glorious return of the Watchers.

Lissandra knows that on that day nations will fall and the world will be reborn in ice.

Close your eyes and let the cold take you.” - Lissandra

Goodbye, Dungeon Fighter

A few weeks ago I talked about one of Nexon's games, Dungeon Fighter Online, and how it has received no updates ever since December. This made a lot of players assume that the game was going to be shut down. Well earlier this week, it has been made official that after 3 years, Nexon America's service of DFO will end.

The ramp down of the game's closing begins on April 11, with the closing of the in game cash shop. Full service will discontinue on June 13. Nexon's reason for closing down Dungeon Fighter is because it wasn't generating enough money to keep it alive. It was expected to do exceptionally well because DFO is very popular in Asia. According to Nexon America's CEO, Min Kim, DFO hasn't been doing exceptionally well during its 3 years of service, but it was doing just fine to keep itself alive.

For those who still play DFO, Nexon is currently preparing a compensation package for you ^^. All purchases made within the past 6 months will be compensated according to the item, and there events going on in Nexon's other games that benefit DFO players :D

Maplestory is hosting an event in which former DFO players get special items for leveling up! The rewards are as follows:

Dragon Nest is also hosting some cool events.

From April 17 - 19, DFO players get unique items just for logging in! The items will be announced at a later time. Still not satisfied? Then how about  400% extra experience from April 11 to May 13! This will allow you to reach Dragon Nest's amazing endgame a lot quicker! But what will you do at level 50 when you don't have any equipment to help you fight? well don't worry, the level up rewards box is stocked with some items to help you out.

Rewards:
Lv. 2: The level 2 Box will contain 1 Poochum Pet (30 day duration), 1 Rabbit Ear costume hat (30 day duration, Magic quality), Rabbit Tail (30 day duration, Magic quality) in addition to its normal contents.
Lv. 15: The level 15 Box will contain Lv.16 Rare Weapons, enhanced to +10, in addition to its normal contents.
Lv. 24: The level 24 Box will contain Lv. 24 Minotaur Weapons, enhanced to +7, in addition to its normal contents.
Lv. 32: The level 32 Box will contain Lv. 32 Cerberus Weapons, enhanced to +7, in addition to its normal contents.
Lv. 40: The level 40 Box will contain Lv. 40 Manticore Weapons, enhanced to +10, Gold Cupid Wings (7 day duration) in addition to its normal contents.
Lv. 50: The level 50 Box will contain Lv. 50 Epic +10 Weapons and Armor, Equine Badge (Brownie Joker), Trinket (Red) in addition to its normal contents.

All of Nexon's games have events for DFO players, but since I only play Maplestory, Dragon Nest, and (formerly) DFO, I'll let you guys look them up yourself :P

I stopped playing DFO a few months ago but it was very fun when I did. I felt like a 2D Dragon Nest, which is good because I love Dragon Nest ^-^ It's a real shame that the game is closing because I feel like there's a lot more to add to the game. I have no idea if any other company will host DFO, but since Nexon didn't say anything about it, I'll assume that no one else will host DFO. So now the only way to play DFO is to make an account for one of the Asian versions :(

Before the game closes, I'll be sure to play it again :)

My main class, the Thief/Rogue ^^

Karma's New Skills + Build

So I finally got to play the Karma and I must say, she is soo much fun to play :D

All of her skills work well with each other and she does TONS OF DAMAGE!!! So for this post I'm go over her new kit, what I think of each skill, and what kind of item build I used. Please note that since KArma is still being tested, some of these values could change.

Karma's new passive is Gathering Fire. Whenever Karma hits an enemy CHAMPION with an ability, the cooldown on Mantra is reduced by 1.5 seconds (Half that amount for basic attacks). This passive allows Karma's mantras to be available more often and rewards her for harassing champions. Since this passive reduces the cooldown on her ultimate, the base cooldown on her mantras were increased. Overall, I think this is a really good passive as long as you're able to harass often.

Karma's new Q is Inner Flame.
Karma fires a blast of energy that explodes upon hitting an enemy, dealing 60/110/160/210/260 (+0.6*AP) magic damage to enemies in the area and slowing them by 25% for 1.5 seconds.

Mantra Bonus - Soulflare: Deals 25/75/125/175 (+0.3*AP) additional magic damage and leaves a circle of flame at the impact area or upon reaching maximum range, slowing enemies for 50%. After 1.5 seconds the circle erupts, dealing 50/150/250/350(+0.6*AP) magic damage to enemies in the area.
Cost
50/60/70/80/90 Mana
Range
950
Cooldown
7/6/5 Seconds

This is my new favourite skill for Karma. The speed of the skillshot and the size makes it pretty easy to hit. Not only that, but the damage it does is good, especially with it's low cooldown. It's blast radius also makes it good to use for farming. The mantra bonus makes it even better. It essentially turns the skill into a powerful AOE slow. Using this skill often can easily burn through your mana, so be careful :)

Karma's new W is Focused Resolve.

Links Karma to target enemy champion, revealing them and dealing 60/110/160/210/260 (+0.6*AP) magic damage over 2 seconds, rooting them in place for 1/1.3/1.5/1.8/2 seconds if the link is not broken.

Mantra Bonus - Renewal: Spirit Link deals 75/150/225/300 (+0.6*AP) bonus magic damage and heals karma over the duration for 75/150/225/300(+0.6*AP).
Cost
70/80/90/100/110 Mana
Range
0
Cooldown
16/15.5/15/14.5/14 Seconds

Karma's new W is easily better than her old one. Not only does it do damage, but it applies a snare! It's damage is also pretty decent, that is until you mantra it. This skill with a mantra applied to it does crazy amounts of damage as long as you keep it on for the full duration. It also gives Karma some form of sustain. The only problem I see with this skill is that you can't target minions, but if she could then she would never have to leave lane XD.

Karma's E, Inspire, is similar to her old one.

Target ally gains a shield, granting 20/30/40/50/60% movement speed for 1.25 seconds and absorbing 80/120/160/200/240 (+0.5*AP) damage for 4 seconds.

Mantra Bonus - Defiance: The shield overflows with energy, dealing 60/140/220/300(+0.6*AP) magic damage to enemy units around her target. Allied champions around her target gain half that amount as a shield, and are also hasted by 20/30/40/50/60%
Cost
60/70/80/90/100 Mana
Range
800
Cooldown
12/12/12/12/12 Seconds

This skill is pretty much a super-powered version of her old shield. Although the AP ratio was lowered, the shield now gives a speed boost. And it's better than her old speed boost :D The mantra version is also similar but with an extra effect. Not only does it do damage, but allies near the shield gain half of the shield's value as their own, AND they get the speed boost! This makes for some pretty crazy initiates and could also keep your entire team healthy throughout a team fight. Definitely an improvement over her old shield, even though it doesn't do as much damage XD

Now for her ultimate, Mantra.

Karma empowers her next ability within 8 seconds for an additional effect.

Soulflare: Deals bonus magic damage and leaves behind a circle of flame, heavily slowing enemies and dealing damage after a brief delay.

Renewal: The link deals bonus magic damage to her target, healing Karma by the same amount while the two are linked.

Defiance: Allied champions around Karma's target become shielded and gain movement speed; Enemy units around her target are dealt magic damage.

NOTE: Leveling this up, increases the ranks you see under each "mantra" part of each abilitiy. For exmaple the "Mantra Bonus - Soulflare: Deals 25/75/125 (+0.3*AP)" you see on her Q, is increased via leveling this, not her Q
Cost

Range

Cooldown
45/45/45 Seconds

This is pretty much the same ultimate but with a few changes. Firstly, because of her new passive, the cooldown of Mantra got raised to 45 seconds! To alleviate this problem, you could buy some CDR or harass. A lot. Another interesting change is that all of the Mantra skill bonuses scale off of Mantra, not the skills themselves. This prevents the bonus effects from getting too strong too quickly. This ultimate is pretty tricky to use, but once you get some CDR, this will become your best friend.

Now that you know more about the skills, here's an idea of what to build.

I start with 2 Faerie Charms and potions, but you can go Boot + pots if you want. I quickly rush the Chalice so I can stay in lane longer and then get the Athene's for the 20% CDR. From there I get my Sorcerer's boots and begin building a Deathcap to get a good chunk of AP. For the third item, I usually get a Morellonomicon because it has all of the stats Karma wants: AP, Mana regen, and CDR. The last three items are up to you. You could get a Zhonya's if you're getting focused (or if you were facing an AD mid), a Void staff for some magic penetration, a Guardian Angel because it's awesome, or even a Warmog's because of how good health is.

For skills I go R > Q > W > E. The Q does a lot of damage when maxed and her W gives a lot of sustain. I get her E last because that's when team fights begin to start.

Well there you have it: The Reworked Karma. I'm gonna continue playing her to see if there's any changes that occur before she's released into the live client. If anything happens then I'll post it.

Until then, bye ^^

That's right. Her classic skin got reworked.

Karma Rework Now on the PBE!

So 2 weeks ago, I made a post about the Karma rework that was recently announced. Now for those that are looking forward to it I have some great news: The Karma rework is now available on the PBE :D

For those who don't know, the PBE (Public Beta Environment) is a League of Legends server that allows players to test content before it's released on the live client. The purpose of this is so Riot gets feedback on the content and is able to fix any bugs that players may find. Unfortunately, most players use the PBE as a means of playing new content before it's released, so Riot has limited PBE sign-ups to the first few days of each month. So if you didn't sign up yet, you have to wait another week :(

But for those who did sign up, you can now patch your PBE client to test the new Karma ^^

Karma's reworked kit is as follows (Copy-Paste from Scarizard's post)

Passive: Gathering Fire – Hitting enemy champions with Karma’s spells and basic attacks lower Mantra’s cooldown.

R: Mantra – Empowers Karma’s abilities, adding an extra effect to the next ability cast.

Q: Inner Flame – Skillshot that deals magic damage and slows enemies in an area.
Empowered by Mantra: Soulflare – Increases damage and leaves behind a zone that slows and, after a brief delay, explodes for AoE damage.

W: Focused Resolve – Enemy-targeted tether that deals damage over time. If the tether is unbroken after a short duration, the tethered target is rooted in place.
Empowered by Mantra: Renewal – Deals bonus damage and heals Karma for the duration of the tether.

E: Inspire – Shields an ally and grants them a short speed boost.
Empowered by Mantra: Defiance – Enemies near the shielded ally are damaged while nearby allies are shielded and granted a short speed boost.

I'm going to play the rework today and I'll post my thoughts on it later. Right now I'll talk about what I think of her new kit.

I really like how instead of removing the mantra system, they improved it. The mantras are what made Karma unique, and at the same time prevented her from being powerful. The new passive allows Karma to be rewarded more for harassing, instead of her old passive which encouraged her to make risky plays. Her new Q is more aggressive than her old one, which is what Riot was trying to get at. However, this also means Karma no longer has an ability to heal her team.

Her new W is a lot better than her old one. Although she can no longer speed up her teammates, she can now do damage AND apply hard CC (snare/root). Her W also gives her some nice sustain, although I don't know how good the sustain is since I don't know the actual numbers.

Her Q, which was my favourite skill, is still the same, but with one change: it now applies a speed boost when mantra'd. So not only does the shield have a lot of health, deal tons of damage, but it can speed up your entire team, provided that they're positioned properly.

Overall, I really like how Karma is designed as an aggressive support who can do well as an AP mid (Similar to Lux).

That's all for now, but I'll be back later with more info on the Karma Rework.

Touhou - Embodiment of Scarlet Devil

So over the break I have been playing A LOT of games. I also got back into the Touhou series :D Although I have been a fan of Touhou for about 2 years, I haven't played the games in a long time. Now, most of you probably haven't even heard of Touhou so let me explain what it is.

Touhou, or Project Shrine Maiden, is a Japanese doujin series of bullet-hell shooters (Bullet-hell shooter = 2D Shoot 'em up. Sorta like Gradius). The entire series is developed by the one-man developer Team Shangai Alice, whose sole member, ZUN, is responsible for all of the games' music, graphics, and programming. There are currently 13 main games, with the first 5 being developed for the Japanese PC-98 series of computers. The gameplay of the Touhou series focuses on shooting down numerous enemies while dodging seemingly impossible bullet patterns (I'm gonna show you a video of what the game is like at the end of the post). Each game after the 6th usually includes some kind of new scoring system. All of the games also encourage "grazing", which is when a bullet barely misses your characters hitbox. Whenever you graze a bullet, you gain extra points.

You gotta dodge stuff like this :D

That looks impossible right? Well don't worry, your hitbox is very small, so patterns like this aren't as difficult as they seem (although they are still VERY difficult).

Today, I'm going to talk about the 6th game in the series: Touhou - Embodiment of Scarlet Devil. This is the first Touhou game that was developed for Windows PCs. It's also my favourite in the entire series, mainly because of the cast ^^

What I like about this game is how it greatly improved over the previous ones, and how there are no complicated gameplay mechanics. This allows me to focus on dodging bullets instead of trying to remember every little gameplay mechanic.

The game features 2 playable characters, each with 2 different "shot" types. Reimu Hakurei focuses on wide area attacks while Marisa Kirisame focuses on more powerful focused attacks. They also feature different "bomb" types, known as Spellcards (Bombs are what you use to clear an entire screen. Think of a panic button).

I decided to choose Reimu because I always used Marisa when I first started. I also choose her second shot type, Persuasion Needle, because it does tons of damage. I went through the first stage without any problems, although I almost made a few careless mistakes >.< Second stage was okay although I panicked at the boss and wasted a bomb (Curse you Cirno) >.>

The third stage is where I started messing up. I was doing fine until the boss. The problem with this boss is that she has 2 different attacks where she simply fires bullets into random directions. This requires me to do some ninja-dodges because I can't rely on patterns.

The fourth stage wasn't any better. It wasn't random bullets that killed me, but ones that change direction >.<
You have no idea how hard it is to dodge a stream of bullets that CURVE INTO YOUR CURRENT POSITION.

Fifth stage was worse. Now instead of the bullets curving, the boss teleports, freezes time, and changes the direction of the bullets WHILE TIME IS FROZEN. So if I position myself to dodge a stream of bullets, I'll get frozen and the bullets are now coming straight at me.  But I was able to figure out the patters eventually and managed to beat the stage while dieing only once.

The last stage is pretty fun and frustrating at the same time. But instead of ranting about it, here's a video of me doing it.

I forgot to mention that there are 4 difficulty levels: Easy, Normal, Hard, and Lunatic. This was done on normal. This run was pretty bad to be honest >.<

Well that's all for today. I'll talk more about Touhou some other time. Later ^^

KARMA REWORK

For those who play League of Legends, this post is for you.

Some of you may know, or heard, of a champion named Karma. A majority of the community jokes around and says "What's a Karma?". This is because Karma is seen as the worst champion in the game. Is this true? Absolutely. Does this mean she isn't fun?  Hell no! I've played Karma plenty of times and I must say, she is pretty damn fun to play as. Although she isn't much compared to other champions, she can still contribute a lot to a team if played right.

So why am I talking about Karma? Well, about a year ago, Riot announced that they are well aware of Karma's problems and are going to rework her. But ever since that announcement, we haven't heard a thing from them. However, today we received great news. A recent forum post by Riot confirms that the Karma rework is coming soon! And by soon, I mean a few weeks :D

Before I go into detail on the actual post, I'm gonna talk about what I think of Karma and what keeps her from being good. Just by looking at her kit, you can easily say she's a support. She has an AOE heal, a speed buff/debuff that does damage, and a ridiculously strong shield that does damage. So she seems like an ok support right? Well she would be if it weren't for her ultimate. Karma's ultimate is called Mantra. It's max level is 1 and you automatically have a point in it whenever you start the game. What it does is whenever you activate it, the next spell you use as an added effect.

So what's so bad about it?

Well, not only does it have a pretty long cooldown (30 seconds to get one charge and you can only hold 2 charges), but mantra is what makes her other skills useful.

Her Q, Heavenly Wave, deals damage to enemies in front of her. If you use a mantra with it, then it also heals allies in front of you as well. So her AOE heal that looked so good is held back by a 30 second cooldown.

Her W, Spirit Bond, creates a beam between her and an ally or enemy. If you target an ally, that ally gets a speed boost; if you target an enemy, then they get a slow. In order for it to do damage, enemies have to walk through the beam. Also, the enemy that the beam is attached to takes no damage from it. But it's still a decent speed boost/slow right? Nope. Without a mantra, the slow/boost is 18% at max level. This is equivalent to Gangplank's passive at 2 stacks. With a mantra the effect is double to 36%. This is when the effect is noticeable. Although without the mantra the effect is decent, it still doesn't feel quite strong enough.

Karma's E, Soul Shield, creates a protective shield around her or her allies. If you use a mantra with it, then energy radiates from the shield when you summon it, dealing tons of damage to enemies around the shield. This is probably my favourite Karma skill. Why? Because the AP ratio on this skill makes the shield incredibly hard to break and the damage it does is RIDICULOUS. This skill saves lives and secures kills as long as you put it on the right person.

So after looking at more info on the skills, it may seem like Karma is a pretty weak support since her mantra system holds her back and if you play her as a support, then you won't be getting any gold to abuse her ridiculous AP ratios. So where do you put her?

Mid.

By putting her mid, you'll be able to get enough gold to get tons of AP and wreck teams with her OP shield and painful fans. Her shield and heal also gives her a lot of sustain, allowing her to outlast some AP mids.
Still need more proof that she's a better mid than support? The let's look at her passive.

Her passive is Inner Flame. What it does is you gain AP corresponding to your missing % health. So the less health you have, the more AP you have. Karma about to die? Too bad, she just got a 500 health shield and did the same amount to you. This is NOT a support passive. This is a passive that encourages you to go all in and blow up the enemy team with your shield.

In my honest opinion, Karma's main problem is that it's unclear whether she's a support or an AP mid. Her skill descriptions say support, but her ratios say AP mid. Not only that, but she doesn't excel at either role.

But that all changes now. Riot said that they're going to rework her kit to be more fitting to her lore and her role as an Ionian leader. We still don't have any specifics on the rework yet, but I'll post them when I find them.

Also, along with the skill rework, Karma is getting a visual rework, along with a new skin! So I'll end off this post with a picture of her new skin, Traditional Karma.

MapleStory - Mark Of Honour and some stuff about DFO

So the Mark of Honour patch was released in Global MapleStory 2 days ago and it's the patch where we get one of the 2 Japanese exclusive classes: Kanna. I still gotta play it but it looks really cool just by looking at it :D Not only does this patch include Kanna, but it also includes new level 150 Root Abyss equips. Since we got Kanna, there's a good chance that the nezt patch will include the 2nd Japanese exclusive class: Hayato.

Ever since I saw these 2 classes released in Japan MapleStory, I always wanted to play them, but I never thought I would be able to because they're supposed to be Japanese Exclusive. Now I have a chance to play them ^^

I'm gonna play Kanna tomorrow after posting about my DN Swordmaster and I'll give my thoughts on it. Until then I'll just skim over the update notes.

Original Link: http://maplestory.nexon.net/news/updates/update-notes/00FmM#rootabysssets

Some quick info on Kanna: She's a mage and used INT, and she also uses a new weapon called Fans. The Fans are classified as 2Handed weapons so have fun scrolling them XD You can also make either a male or female Kanna which is nice and she doesn't run on MP. The patch notes also has her backstory which is cool since it's based on Japanese history.

Here it is:
June 21, 1582
Honnou-ji in Kyoto

Japan
After years of turmoil, Oda Nobunaga finally seized control of Japan, but his desire for power only grew. He sought immortality, and the temple of Honnou-ji would bring it to him. He prepared an ancient ritual of reincarnation that would see him reborn as The Sixth Sky Demon King, but word of the ritual got out, and the feudal lords stormed Honnou-ji to stop Nobunaga while it was still possible. In the end, a young onmyouji named Kanna disrupted the ritual, and the would-be dark lord’s plans crumbled around him.

But victory came at a cost. Just as the ritual was disrupted, a great pillar of light lurched forth from the temple and transported everyone to a strange world. Now, Kanna must conquer this strange place and regain lost strength and allies in order to stop the dark ambitions of Nobunaga's followers.

You can also see all of Kanna's skills but I'll go over those when I start playing her. The level 150 equips are posted as well and their set bonuses. The set consists of only 4 items so it will be relatively easy to get the full bonus (assuming you can kill the bosses of course). The sets consist of a hat, body armor, bottom, and weapon. This means bowmen and mages can finally get a top and bottom, allowing them to get more potential bonuses :D There's no pictures of the sets but I'll post them when I find them ^^

There's nothing else to special other than log-in and level up events. But there's one thing to note: Kanna is a limited time class. You can only create her until April 2. Evan and Aran are also up for creation until the same day.
If you want more in depth info on the patch you can check out the link I posted :)

Now before I go I want to point out a rather annoying thing that Nexon has been doing. Some of you might of heard of Nexon's other game called Dungeon Fighter Online. Now if you have been checking out the Dungeon Fighter site you may have noticed something odd: There hasn't been any new patches, events, and the last post was on the 13th of DECEMBER. There has been no word of any updates. This has given people the idea that DFO is going to be shut down soon. But if you lurk on the forums (like me) you will find out that a Nexon employee (Sageon) is posting. He has been saying that the reason Nexon hasn't been updating DFO is because they never received any updates or update schedules from the DFO developers, Neople. So the reason DFO is being ignored isn't because of Nexon themselves, it's because of Neople (although I'm pretty sure Neople is a subsidiary of Nexon). So unless Nexon explicitly says "DFO is being shut down", then there's no chance of it being closed. That is of course, unless Neople decides they want to stop developing DFO. If that does happen, then DFO will either be handed to another developer, or Nexon will host it as it is for a month or 2 before shutting it down. I don't think DFO is ending anytime soon since there's still 2 Thief subclasses that have to be released. So until that happens, don't expect DFO to go anywhere.

That's enough of me talking for now. To end of this post, here's a picture of The Black Swordsman of SAO, Kirito <3

Dragon Duel Tournament + other stuff

Hello again ^^

So today I went on the Dragon Nest forums and found out something really cool: Nexon is hosting a PVP tournament for North American Dragon Nest. Although there were tournaments before this, this is the very first tournament that is officially hosted by Nexon.

Original post here: http://dragonnest.nexon.net/news/news/00Fmn/dragon-duel-tournament?nxid=62

I'm just gonna go over the key points of the tournament before giving my thoughts on it. The tournament is going to take place sometime in March and only characters level 32 or higher can participate. 64 players from the Argenta, Gerrant, Velskud, and Elena world merge will participate as well as 32 players from the Leviatha server. The sign-up thread will open in the forums on Friday this week.

The prizes for the tournament are some sexy wings :D

1st Place winners - Gold Gackt Wings

2nd Place winners - Green Gackt Wings

Some things to know about the tournament:

  • Nexon DOES NOT enforce the PvP blacklist, so we can assume all skills are fair game. Thus, if you are going to participate, expect to run into a lot of Parry-Stancing SMs, Blocking Pallies, and possibly a bunch of turret spamming Tinks.
  • The post does not specify whether or not the matches will be equalized or not. If they're not, then good luck :)
  • Still unsure on the layout of the matches. Although there's a very good chance of it being a 1v1 tourney, there's still a chance of it being something different.
  • Since the post implies numerous 1st place and 2nd place winners, I'm guessing that the Argenta - Elena - Velskud - Gerrant server merge will be one tournament and the Leviatha server will have its own tournament. So if you think you'll get smashed in the merged - server tourney, you can go for the Leviatha one ^^
  • Before you ask, no, I will not be participating. Not because I'll get completely destroyed, but because I don't have my level 50 Gladiator >.<
So enough about Dragon Nest for now. Now let's talk about the rest of my week :D
So tomorrow I got 3 tests to write: Biology, Computer Science, and Math. The only test I'm really worried about is Biology only because of how much I hate memorizing -.- The computer Science test won't be too much of a problem because I already printed out all of my codes. Math is gonna be a little tricky. The thing is, I'm good a math, it's just that I make stupid mistakes. A lot. I'll still do good though :)

After school I'm gonna go to Anime club for 2 hours and then go to the Badminton tryouts. I'm like a Badminton Bruce Lee. Yeah. I'm that good (not really  >//<)

Jokes aside, I'm really looking forward to the tryouts only because I haven't played in awhile and I really enjoy playing badminton.

I'll be sure to blog about my Dragon Nest Swordmaster this week and to end off this post, I shall leave you with a picture of Miss Sakuya Izayoi.

Dragon Nest - My Gearmaster :D

I know I said I was gonna blog about China Dragon Nest, but there's an event in the North American one so I started playing it again >.< So the next three posts will be about Dragon Nest. I'll blog about my Gear Master, my Swordmaster (going to be a Gladiator), and my Kali (Which is also when I blog about CDN).

So without further delay, here's my level 50 Gear Master, Azunyaann ^^

A little background info on this character. This was my very first tinkerer (made it right when they were released), my very first level 50, and is currently my main (I was maining a Swordmaster before tinks came out). This is also the first character that I geared up completely, although the release of the Green Dragon Nest means I have to get even more equipment -.-

I'll start off by posting my skill build: Direct Link

So this is a pretty standard build for a GM; no fancy gimmicks and nothing stupid. Everything is pretty much self-explanatory. Quick-Shot requires too many points to be useful so I left it at one. I got Napalm to 4 so I could reach the 45 point minimum. I maxed out Starburst because stuns are awesome, although when I get another free skill reset I'll put those points into Napalm for more damage. Maxed Tumble and Aerial Evade for obvious reasons, although if you only PVE and never PVP you can take some points out of Aerial Evade. Max Slip-And-Slide for some useful speed boosts. Maxed out the Alfredo skills because they're awesome. And finally I maxed out the Health and Mana boosts because there's no where else to put the extra points. I also got the Yum-a-Tron because it's free ^^

I don't really have to explain my Engineer skill tree because it's all pretty strightforward (Superball for damage, Make-It-Rain for damage, Towers for damage, everything for DAMAGE!). Chemical Warfare is left at one because it's damage is meh but it's debuff is awesome. I don't dual-ulti because Bullet Barrage is soooooo bad (Which is funny because it was the best ultimate before T4). I don't need any of the turrets except for the frost one because of Chainsaw Tower. Got some points into the duck tree for Quackum Crash EX . Lastly, I got Alfredo Smash to 6 so Alfredo does more DAMAGE!

The Gear Master skill tree needs no explanation.

The only thing I plan on changing in this build is maxing Napalm instead of Starburst to maximize DPS. I don't plan on making any drastic changes to this build unless there's another skill revamp ^^

Next up is my gear + stats.
SOMNIUM REPRESENT! So yeah here's my basic info, my Ancient Totem set bonuses and my Corrupted Weapons ^^ Also rocking the 195 attack bonus from the 2-piece corrupted set :D
So go ahead and criticize my stats >//< Still gotta respark my cannon and I'll respark my powerglove for Phys Dmg, Agility, and Crit once I get some more money. Also still gotta get more jellies to enhance my weapons to +9 :P

Hope you can read that >.< Enhanced all of my armor to +6 and crafted the Wind II suffix for more agility :D  I got lucky and 4/5 of these got Agility on their first spark. The Body armor took 3 resets before it got me agility (it got intellect 3 times in a row -.-). Once I finish enhancing my weapons I'll enhance these things.

These are weak. I know that. But I plan on getting better accessories once I gather enough passes for Hell Mode. If I ever decide to stack FD (AKA if I ever have the patience to gather enough ladder points), I'll get one of the Nest accessory sets. Heck I might even get them now if their prices drop XD

So as you can see, My equipment is pretty standard. I run 2 Corrupted / 4 Totem to maximize my Phys Dmg gains. Getting Phys Dmg sparks for even more damage. Agility sparks for MORE damage and crit. Wind II suffix on my armor for more crit and damage. Wind II on my cannon for crit, damage, and to lower crit resist on my targets. Iron Wall II on my powerglove for more damage and to lower the defense of my enemies (which let's me deal even MORE damage). I won't spark my accessories until I get the level 50 ones.

To end off this post, here's a video of me soloing the Manticore Nest (Hell).

Sorry for low quality >.< For some reason Blogger decides to downgrade my video

This far from a perfect run but I managed to get a Gravity Ball Crest from it :D :D :D :D :D
Once I get geared up (and more confident >.>), I'll make a video of me soloing Titan Nest >:D

That's all for this post. My next one will be on my Gladiator-in-the-making ^^

Devil Survivor Review

So I just finished playing Devil Survivor (DS) last week and now I'm gonna give my thoughts on it :D
Keep in mind that I only played through 1 route (Gin's route because he's the coolest), so I won't go in too much detail in terms of story line. Also, I played Devil Survivor 2 before playing this one so I'll be comparing the 2 throughout the review.

Devil Survivor is a strategy-rpg for the Nintendo DS and is a spinoff of the Shin Megami Tensei series for the Nintendo DS. The game combines strategic gameplay with tradition turn based combat. The gameplay is unique and the story is very good (probably better than the second one).

The story starts off with the protagonist (I'll call him Hero), and his 2 best friends, Atsuro and Yuzu, meeting up to see Hero's cousin Naoya. Naoya ends up being a no-show and instead gives Atsuro 3 devices called COMPs (Which happen to look like DSs). The COMPs turn out to be locked so Atsuro decides to unlock them using his super-awesome computer skills. He was only able to enable the messaging system and finds out that the 3 COMPs all have the same message which displays events that are supposed to happen throughout the day, all of them associated with someone dying. The 3 teens disbelieve what the email says and Atsuro goes off to try to enable the rest of the COMPs functions. He later meets up with the Heo and Yuzu later on and tells them that he managed to unlock the rest of the COMPs functions. He gives out the other 2 COMPs and they all start them up at the same time, but what happens next is not what they expect. Demons come out of the COMPs and begin attack the teens. Although they expected to be powerless, they managed to defeat the demons. When they were defeated, the demons said they are now under their control. It turns out that the COMPs are capable of summoning and storing demons. The teens are shocked and decide to try and go home only to find out that all of Tokyo is under a lockdown. The government says it because of a serious gas leak in the subway system but the teens don't believe it. They soon find out that there are demons running around the city and the only way for them to survive is to kill them with their demons. Now Hero, Atsuro, and Yuzu, are desperately trying to survive the demon invasion while finding out a way to escape the mysterious lockdown.

I really like the story of this game because it gives off a feeling of desperation while the second game's story gives off a feeling of ambition. This game revolves around surviving the lockdown while the second game's story revolves more around on saving the world (kind of generic but the game pulls it off well). Although I like both stories, I prefer this story just a bit more only because it has a darker feel to it :P

A thing to note about this game's story (and the 2nd game's story), is that there are multiple endings. The ending you decide to choose determines how you will end the lockdown. The endings you will be able to choose are based on the decisions you make and the characters you decide to talk to. There are about 5(?) endings so expect to run through the game a few times if you want to experience the entire story ;) Unlike the 2nd game, there is no True Ending, so don't assume one ending is more correct than another.

The characters in this game are all interesting and loveable. The one thing that bugs me though is that there seems to be less character development in this game than the second one, probably due to the fact that the second game had a Fate System. Despite this, all of the characters are unique and there is no "twin personalities", well, except for the NPCs. One of the cool things about the protagonist is that he is essentially a blank slate. In other words, you have full control over his stats, and the decisions he makes, which in turn affects what kind of personality he has. Although his personality has no real impact on gameplay (except for the fact that it determines what ending you get), it affects the story quite a bit, giving you more control on how the story goes.

Now for the most important part of a game, gameplay. The game is split into 2 parts: exploration and combat (and combat is split into 2 more parts XD). Exploration is where you are able to fuse demons, manage your teams, buy more demons, and pick different scenes. While exploring, you need to keep in mind that scenes and battles all take up 30 minutes of in game time, and that certain scenes can only be viewed before or after certain times. So you'll pick which scene you want to view carefully and prioritize depending on the ending you want. Exploring is pretty straight forward, you scroll through the list of areas (all of which are actual places in Tokyo) and watch the scenes you want. There are also scenes that have battle associated with them, which is what I'll talk about next.

Before the actual battle starts, you are able to do some last minute preparations. You can edit your team, their skills, position them on the map, and also set up Skill Cracks. You are allowed to have only 4 characters participate in a battle. Each character is assigned to a "team" which has 2 other demons. So each character is essentially in control of a team of 2 demons. A Skill Crack  is when you choose a specific skill that an enemy has and associate it with one of your teams. When a team defeats that enemy, you "Crack" the skill and can assign it to your characters. This serves as the only way to attain new skills.

As I said before, combat is split into 2 parts. The first part is the strategy portion. This is where you tell your teams where to go and who to attack. This is similar to Fire Emblem in the sense that you tell each team to attack specific enemies. When you order an attack, you enter the battle portion of combat. This portion plays like the classic Final Fantasy games. You tell your team which skills to use and who to attack and the faster characters move first. The battle ends when a team's leader dies or when all characters attack. This game also features an extra turn system which is supposedly similar to SMT: Nocturne's Press Turn System. What this is is whenever you score a critical hit or exploit an enemies weakness, you have a chance to gain an extra turn. Normally, you can only attack once per turn, but if you get an extra turn, you can attack once more, however you can only use your extra turn after everyone else has made their move. This adds an incentive to exploit weaknesses whenever you can.

The gameplay is really unique because is combines 2 different kinds of battle systems and mixes them together to feel like a completely different genre. There isn't really much to compare to the second game because they both play the same. The only difference is that Devil Survivor 2 features a Joint-Skill Crack system which makes it easier to get skills. Thus, I shall choose DeSu 2's battle system over the first one :P.

Lastly is the music. I'll try to make this part short. The music in the game has a heavier feel than the second game and a lot of the tracks are influenced by metal, which is good because it makes battles feel more epic :D Although there are a lot of good songs, there are some songs that I don't like very much (Aggressive Tune). The OST as a whole is very well done, but I prefer DeSu 2's OST more.

Story - 10/10 (Love it)
Gameplay - 9/10 (Amazing with very few complaints)
Music - 8/10 (Love the whole "metal" vibe, but some of the track I just don' like)
Replay-ability - 9/10 (5 endings. The New Game+ feature felt pretty rushed though)

Overall - 9/10

I loved this game a lot and it's definitely worth playing if you have a DS. There's also a 3DS remake of the game called Devil Survivor Overclocked which added some of the features that were in the second game, and also adds extra content.
In order from favourite to least favourite:
Overclocked > Devil Survivor 2 > Devil Survivor

Sorry for the lengthy post, but I'll make it up to you with a picture of the protagonist of Devil Survivor 1 :D

Gonna blog about my adventures through China Dragon Nest soon ^-^
